RESULTS GUIDE

Understanding Celiac Check scan results

A result describes the available product listing. It is not a verdict on whether a food is safe for you.

Ingredient flag

A red result means the available ingredient listing contained a selected gluten-related term. It is a reason to stop and read the package carefully. It does not diagnose a problem with the product or replace the full ingredient list, but it should not be treated as a gluten-free result.

No listed trigger found

A yellow result means Celiac Check did not find one of its selected terms in the ingredient text it received. It can be useful as a prompt to continue checking, but it does not prove the item is gluten-free. The listing may be incomplete, old, regional, or missing information about cross-contact and manufacturing.

Reported gluten-free claim

When the available listing reports a gluten-free claim, Celiac Check shows that claim separately. Claims can change with packaging and recipes. Confirm that the exact package in your hand carries the claim and review any information that matters for your health needs.

Product not found or lookup unavailable

A valid barcode may not exist in the third-party database. A temporary network or provider problem can also prevent a lookup. Neither result says anything positive or negative about the food. Read the package label and, if needed, use the manufacturer’s contact information.

What to do next

  1. Match the product name and package size to the item in front of you.
  2. Read the current ingredients, allergen statement, gluten-free claim, certifications, and advisory wording.
  3. When the package and listing disagree, trust the package and resolve the difference before eating the product.
  4. For celiac disease, wheat allergy, or another medical concern, follow your qualified clinician or dietitian’s advice.
Important: Celiac Check screens words in a product listing; it does not test food, inspect a factory, or certify a product.

For the data limits behind these outcomes, read why barcode data can be incomplete or outdated and how Celiac Check works.
